State Oil & Gas Supervisor Uduak-Joe Ntuk will share a presentation on changes at the California Geologic Energy Management Division. The COVID-19 era has presented many new challenges, but also new opportunity to improve regulatory oversight. He will share about the Division’s new leadership, process improvements, transparency efforts, regulatory updates, and upcoming projects.
Uduak-Joe Ntuk is the 17th California State Oil and Gas Supervisor responsible for managing the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM). He was appointed by Governor Newsom in October 2019.
He directs a statewide regulatory, technical, and field operations organization designed to emphasize the safe development of oil and natural gas conservation, which includes: protecting public health and safety, environmental quality, and the reduction and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the development of hydrocarbon and geothermal resources in a manner that meets the energy needs of the state. He also serves as a Governor's representative to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and as a governing board member of the Baldwin Hills Conservancy.
Supervisor Ntuk earned his Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering with an emphasis in Smart Oilfield Technologies from the University of Southern California, Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach, and Associate of Arts degree from Long Beach City College.
