Dear SPE Japan Section members & Others,

Please be informed that SPE Japan sponsors JFES (Japan Formation Evaluation Society) event, "The 24th Formation Evaluation Symposium of Japan" held in JOGMEC-TRC on 11th & 12th Oct 2018.
You are highly encouraged to present and attend this event.
Please see the messange from JFES below.

=============================================

The 24th Formation Evaluation Symposium of Japan will be held at Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation - Technology & Research Center (JOGMEC-TRC), Chiba on October 11 - 12, 2018.
All persons involved in oil, gas, geothermal, geo-engineering industry and scientific drillings are invited to submit abstracts of papers for presenting at the symposium.
The symposium will cover a wide area of Formation Evaluation, including Reservoir Characterization, Geophysics and Geomechanics applications, Methane Hydrates, Geothermal, Scientific Drilling, CO2 Geological Storage and New Tool / New Technology.

Regardless of the recent international trend leaning toward renewable/clean energy, many analysts argue that fossil fuel still plays a major role in human activities over the next decades.
Higher economic efficiency is, however, demanded in the oil industry under such level of oil price today.
In the special session this year, “Complex Reservoirs”, JFES will provide an opportunity to discuss the reservoirs like volcanic, fracture, tight, and shale reservoirs, as they usually make it challenging and difficult to estimate their distribution and quality, and to forecast hydrocarbon volume and recovery from them.
If technical risks and uncertainties are surmounted, the complex reservoirs become more accessible thus cost effective. Petrophysicists, geologists and engineers are welcome to attend the symposium and share your ideas to contribute to it.

SPWLA Japan chapter encourage students to participate and present. Best Student Awards will be presented to the outstanding presentation. The student awarded would be nominated for SPWLA student paper contest in the international SPWLA2019 symposium (US).

NOTE TO AUTHORS: Please download the application form from the following web site,
https://jfes-spwla.org/symposium/24thSymp/jfes2018.html

and submit your abstract by e-mail. The abstract shall contain ONLY text of 200-400 words in English in the given form. The deadline of the submission is June 29, 2018 and acceptance will be notified by July 27, 2018.
If accepted, a complete manuscript or extended abstract in English will be required for the proceedings by Aug 31, 2018.

US Copyright law requires a copyright transfer be obtained from authors of papers published in SPWLA publications. Copyright forms must be signed and returned by the corresponding author at the time of extended abstract submission.

If a presenting author fails to appear at the symposium to present the paper (oral only, no poster session will be held), the author will be subject to a two-year ban at the annual symposium and for publication in Petrophysics.

A name of the presenting author needs to be informed to the committee at the time of extended abstract submission. Any co-author of the paper can replace the presenting author as long as the corresponding author have informed the Vice President of Technology in a timely manner.

(*) Any change to this policy is at the discretion of the Vice President of Technology and will be studied on a case by case basis to cover the event of sudden illness among other critical situations.
