Matthias Meister retired in Mar 2018 as Senior Technical Advisor for logging-while-drilling tools from Baker Hughes’ Celle Technology Center in Germany.
He graduated with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Hannover, Germany and began his career as a mechanical engineer working on measurement-while-drilling tools in the early 1980s. After acting as an engineering manager for diamond drill bit design, Matthias led the development of formation testing and sampling-while-drilling tools. Later he became the development manager of multiple logging-while-drilling tools including formation testing, magnetic resonance, acoustic, seismic, and reaming-on-demand.
Matthias holds several patents on logging-while-drilling and drill bit technologies and has presented papers about these at various international workshops and conferences. As a result of this he became since 2000 active in the German Section of SPE holding various positions including chairman. From Oct 2014 till Oct 2017 he was assigned SPE Regional Director for South, Central and East Europe.
