A Call for More Geomechanics in Distinguished Lecturer Series

I recently was made aware of this link to the archive of SPE Distinguished Lecturers' abstracts, slides and notes. I decided to do a few simple keyword searches to find the geomechanics ones, as the list is quite lengthy, going back ten years. A search on "geomechanics" yielded 6 hits and only 3 distinct talks. Searching on a few related words (e.g., sanding, stability), I found only 2 more talks. Is it possible that in 10 years there have only been 5 talks focused on geomechanics? Probably there are a few I missed, but I bet the number is still small. Let's change that! Do you know a geomechanics specialist who meets the criteria?:

Nominee characteristics

Each lecturer chosen by the Distinguished Lecturer Committee is:

  • An expert in his or her field
  • An experienced and articulate public speaker who is comfortable speaking to different audiences in English
  • Willing to volunteer personal time to instruct and share knowledge with other SPE members
  • Willing to travel for an average of 20 presentations with tours lasting around four days or as long as two weeks
  • An experienced traveler—tours can be rigorous due to flight schedules, routing and transportation between sections.

If you do, follow this link to the nomination instructions and deadline!

Great, bring them on, the committee is always looking for good candidates. We do have many past, present and future topics related to Geomechanics. For instance Peng Ray (Chevron) on sand control related geomechanics and also Ong See Hong (Baker) related to borehole / drilling challenges and many more that relate to geomechanics as part on the solution process, especially related to unconventionals.
