Accidents, incidents and near miss events during drilling operations are happening all the time despite extensive training modules.  These events, like many other unplanned event that happens every day and all over the world are a sequence of unfortunate but traceable events.  In a sequence of unfortunate events often only one situation was not considered in the development and design process.
 
Risk Management
The Speaker will describe tools, which are based on European laws and regulations that enable us to identify and eliminate risks in the development and design process. Some risks may not be fully eliminated due to their nature. The speaker will show how these risks can be reduced to an acceptable level, – regardless of the rig location whether it be in Europe or elsewhere in the world.
 
Practical Implementation
By using practical examples, the speaker will demonstrate how it is possible to eliminate risks by using advanced technology during the design process. He will highlight practical ways of implementing risk analysis with field tested examples.
 
The European Regulations and its effect on drilling rigs design worldwide
Many regulations are used to regulate drilling rigs design and operation, especially the mechanism and functionality of its individual components. Speaker will show why and how the European regulations is helping in elevating the drilling rigs components and auxiliary equipment worlwide to a higher HSE Level.
 
Opportunities and Threads of Automation
The market trend is clearly heading to less human handling and more automation philosophy (the handsoff design). Which opportunities grow with a hands-off philosophy? Many! But there are also threats!. The speaker will outline where automation is critical and where it can increase safety level, taking into consideration that  the investment in automation exceeds the value of the operator!
