Abstract:

You’ve worked really hard in your technical field and you work well in a team.  Congratulations - you’ve now been promoted to manager! It’s time to think about how you’re going to leverage your skills and experience to be more highly regarded in a leadership capacity. Almost every new leader comes with more finely honed technical skills than non-technical leadership skills. The good news is that these skills can be learned and developed.

This session will highlight which skills are important for success….is it technical book smarts?  Research has well-proven these don’t set you apart from the pack.  This presentation will outline the key considerations and skills of effective leaders.  Participants will be able to take a more proactive approach to their career success as a leader.

At the session, participants will learn:

  1. Why IQ alone is not a predictor of career success
  2. The “other intelligence” …. EQ
  3. The essential EQ skills for success in technical professionals
  4. What’s the difference between “Rising Stars” and “Falling Stars” when it comes to workers?
  5. Value of Street Smarts vs. School Smarts?
  6. Characteristics of highly successful leaders.
  7. What exactly is Emotional Intelligence and can it be developed?
  8. What Emotional Intelligence competencies should you develop first, and how?
