Abstract:

Horizontal wellbore fracturing utilizing the ‘Plug and Perf’ method comprises a large part of the market across North America to enable stimulation of shale formations and access to tight oil and gas reservoirs. Following completion of fracturing it is necessary to remove these plugs from the wellbore, utilizing Coiled Tubing and a Motor/Mill assembly is a common practice to achieve this.

A large focus is put on the planning and execution of the fracturing treatment and the subsequent milling operation can often be an afterthought. There are many variables to be considered during coiled tubing milling operations and each stage of the operation presents its own challenges.

In the presentation, an extensive amount of data collected from 50 wells for a single customer in the Montney formation are analyzed to show a breakdown of the various stages of the operation and how small changes can translate into time and cost savings for the operator.
