Abstract:

SPE Business Breakfast Series is pleased to present our first-panel discussion.

The way that regulatory liabilities and company creditors are handled when a company is under financial stress has changed with the Supreme Court of Canada’s landmark “Redwater” decision to overturn the decision of lower courts.  Join our expert panel to hear thoughts on how this important decision will affect our industry from a regulatory, lending and legal perspective.

Speaker Bio:

Rob Morgan is President and CEO of Cona Resources and is a Professional Engineer with over 30 years of technical, operations and management experience. Prior to joining Cona in 2017 he was Senior Vice President and COO for Crew Energy and prior to, COO Upstream for Harvest Operations Corp. which was purchased by the Korea National Oil Corporation in 2009. He was Vice President Operations and Corporate Development at Viking Energy Royalty Trust which merged with Harvest Energy Trust in 2006. Mr. Morgan was a member of the management team that formed Petrovera Resources in 1999 from assets owned by PanCanadian Petroleum and Gulf Canada Resources, holding positions of Vice President Corporate Development, and Vice President Engineering. From 1985 to 1999, Mr. Morgan held management and senior technical positions at Pan Canadian Petroleum Limited and CS Resources Limited, and technical and field operations positions with Murphy Oil Company Ltd. He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a BSc. in Chemical Engineering, a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA and a member of the Alberta Securities Commission Petroleum Advisory Committee.

Hazel Saffery is a partner in Denton’s Energy group. Hazel advises clients on energy acquisitions and divestitures, negotiates and drafts corporate transactions, and purchase and sale agreements for oil and gas assets and power (including renewables) assets. She has a wide breadth of experience and advises on matters ranging from joint venture, partnership, and operational agreements, to technical and land use agreements. In her regulatory practice, Hazel advises commercial clients on transactional and operational implications of the regulatory processes, as well as advising concerned stakeholders and landowners.

Dana Fleury is a Managing Director in the Corporate Banking Group in Calgary. She is responsible for the analysis, execution, structuring and documentation of corporate credit transactions focusing on the Energy sector. She has over 20 years of experience managing lending relationships and transactions in the upstream oil and gas, pipeline and forestry sectors.
Dana joined BMO Capital Markets in 1997 after receiving her Master of Business Administration from the Haskayne School of Business in Calgary, Alberta. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Queen’s University, and is a CFA charterholder.
