Monthly Meeting Abstract

Plugging wells at the end of their lives is an expensive operation many small operators try to avoid.

For this reason, we have literally millions of orphan and idle wells that need to be properly plugged and abandoned. Some of these wells leak natural gas to the atmosphere, which is primarily methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. In the last few years. Carbon registries have established methodologies to quantify the methane leaks and generate carbon credits after permanently plugging the well. Guardian Plug & Abandonment (GPA) is a project developer that executes these carbon projects. Pro's and con's of various project types will be addressed, as well as going through the process of completing a carbon credit project.

Study Group Meeting Abstract

Our speakers from Guardian P&A will describe examples of how they have identified, diagnosed, and addressed challenges associated with effectively plugging leaking wells. The importance of careful planning and analysis will be emphasized.
