  • 1.  If we can use the SPE11A,B&C cases in our own research now?

    Dear organizers of SPE11:

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek clarification regarding the use of the SPE11 case in our own research work.

Specifically, we want to add the SPE11 as a case study in our group's paper which is under review now. We believe that incorporating these problems into our research would significantly enhance the quality and relevance of our work. However, we are aware of the clause in the agreement we signed that prohibits the publication of content related to SPE11 before the CSP papers are published in peer-reviewed journals. (The original words are: Before the CSP papers are published in peer-reviewed journals, the Participant cannot publish results or other specifics that are part of the CSP in any journal, book, or edited collection without explicit prior consent of the CSP Publishers.)

My research may published before the official CSP papers. Could you please confirm if it would be permissible to use only our own simulation results in my research?

    Best regards

    Chaojie

    Hi Chaojie,

Thanks for reaching out for clarification.

As I read your question, this should be fine. For reference (since I know old e-mails get buried), we clarified a similar questions in an e-mail to all participants in January:

Considering that the SPE11 data is publicly available, we welcome its utilization in current research even before the conclusion of the CSP cycle at the end of 2024. Nevertheless, we would appreciate if direct comparisons among simulators based on SPE11 data are not made public at this time, since this would compete with the Comparative Study Project itself. With this in mind, we encourage authors who utilize the SPE11 data to consider submitting their work to the special issue of SPE Journal and/or to the 2025 SPE RSC.

Of course, if you choose to use the SPE11 dataset, the appropriate reference is the final version published in SPE Journal:

    Best regards,
