Abstract
An optimal procedure is presented for utilization of natural gas pipeline chromatograph (GC) measurement coupled with accurate natural gas hydrocarbon dew point (HCDP) measurement for extension of the GC composition to higher molecular weight hydrocarbons. A gravimetric gas mixture developed by SPL is utilized to demonstrate the procedure. Accurate dewpoint measurement is done via a ZEGAZ instrument. Extension of a C6+ truncated composition is then done through a Starling Associates software program to provide a more accurate composition as determined by the experimental ZEGAZ dewpoint measurement. The result is a seven-step procedure that can be implemented by pipeline operators to improve decision making when higher molecular weight hydrocarbons are present.
Biography
Mr. Landes began his career with SPL in 1995, and in 2012 he became the Executive Vice President of Technical Services. He is responsible for writing and updating standard operating procedures and developing training materials and modules for the technical services team. Bringing more than 30 years of oil and gas experience to the company, Mr. Landes has held multiple leadership roles at the director level for SPL’s technical team and was previously SPL’s Vice President of Western Operations/Technical Director. Mr. Landes also serves on several industry committees including the International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement (ISHM), Gas Processors Association (GPA), American Petroleum Institute (API), and American Standards for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
