Abstract:
As auto-forecasting, data analytics, and high-performance computing are leveraged more and more for oil and gas evaluations, industry professionals are tasked less with the doing and more with the reviewing. Understanding the why behind the estimates has become increasingly important. Material balance principles form the basis for many tasks of reservoir engineers and reserve evaluators. This presentation revisits the fundamentals of material balance to refresh your understanding and connects it to decline curve analysis, simulation, and other applications. It is intended to be useful for engineers and non-engineers alike.
