  • Judges Needed for UT SPE Student Paper Contest

UT will hold its local SPE paper contest on Friday, March 31, and they are seeking judges for this competition.

UT has had frequent success in the BS, MS, and PhD divisions at the International SPE Paper Contest held at ATCE.  This success begins with judges selecting talented speakers at the local level.

Judges need to hold a BS, MS, or PhD degrees for the BS, MS, or PhD division they judge. One does not need to graduate from UT to judge the UT contest, nor does the degree need to be in petroleum engineering.

Judging entails listening as each student presents for up to 20 minutes and scoring the students using established SPE metrics.  After a student presents, the judges can then ask each presenter questions for a few minutes.

Event timing will depend on the final number of participants.  In the past, the event started around 8:00 and concluded around 4:30.  Judges and contestants are invited to the reception announcing the winners around 5:30.

Feel free to contact Deborah Hempel-Medina, at dhempelmedina@austin.utexas.edu for more info.

HERE is the signup to judge.
