Emerging Unconventional Plays: from the Permian to the Vaca Muerta

presented by Ted Cross with Novi Labs

Abstract

Where will the next phase of production growth in unconventionals come from? Though the US set fresh records in 2023, breaking 9 million barrels/day and 97 bcf/day of production form horizontals, many are wondering how long supply can be sustained. In part, the answer lies with the industry’s availability to identify and develop new plays.

In this talk, we will survey emerging basins and plays in the Lower 48 and abroad. We will take a deep dive into the Permian basin, looking at newer zones both shallower and deeper in the rock column. We will also look at the Uinta, Utica liquids window, western Haynesville, the Vaca Muerta, and more. We will examine well performance, subsurface characteristics, design considerations, and other key learnings.
