Revitalizing Mature Shut-In North Sea Wells
By Colin Jordan, Weatherford

Abstract

Across the North Sea, and indeed the globe, there are a vast number of wells that have been taken offline for a multitude of reasons, with one of the most common being attributed to casing integrity issues. As we all know, the industry is making the transition towards increased sustainability, where carbon footprint reduction is king. What if we could breathe new life into these mature assets whilst still maintaining well integrity, even with the requirements for gas lift?

It is often said that “necessity is the mother of invention”. In this case, the drive to do more with less is the necessity and it is up to the industry to adopt innovative thinking to achieve just that. This talk serves to review the development and subsequent case study of an advanced gas lift system which address the well integrity challenges as well as providing the lift capability required to allow these mature fields to realise their full potential.
