Study Group: Gas-Oil-Ratio as a Diagnostic Tool for Evaluating Infill Well Spacing

11-12-2020 02:12 PM

Well spacing is the big question facing most of us these days. GOR performance can give clues about OOIP or OGIP if you know how to look at it. Especially from a relative point of view, i.e. infill vs. parent, the secondary phase performance is very helpful for quantifying degradation due to limited drainage volume. This talk will focus on the following:

  • How the GOR increase during boundary-dominated flow is related to drainage volume
  • How pressure-normalized rate is related to drainage volume
  • Differences between parent and infill GOR behavior
  • Application to gas condensate reservoirs

Concepts are illustrated with examples from the Permian and Anadarko basins, as well as reservoir simulation. For background please see SPE 184397, “Producing Gas-Oil Ratio Behavior of Multi-Fractured Horizontal Wells in Tight Oil Reservoirs”.
