Benefits of Reuse and Recycling in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production – Over the past ten years drilling and production technologies have evolved rapidly in the Oil and Gas Industry. Today environmental sustainability is not only the right thing to do, but it has become a necessity for drilling projects to continue in water-deficient areas of the country. In addition, disposal and repurposing of drill cuttings are essential for keeping total operations costs under control. This presentation will explore beneficial reuse and recycling of produced water and oil-based drill cuttings. We will also explore the economic impacts of meaningful reuse, and potential negative environmental impacts if proper design, treatment, and construction methods are not followed. The rules and regulations discussed in this presentation will be based on regulatory requirements from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC), and will also discuss similarities and differences in regulatory environments of the neighboring states (Texas and New Mexico).
