  • Chairman's Monthly Newsletter - Shahd Tarar - November 2019

I hope everybody was able to attend ATCE this month, and those who attended had a wonderful time full of learning and networking. This was my first time not able to attend in a long time and I was so sad to have missed it; I heard it was a very informative and successful event. A huge thank you to the local Calgary Section for assisting SPEI with the event and organizing an event for members to explore the beautiful sites of Canada.

ATCE is always an interesting event to hear technical presentations and learn what other SPE sections around the globe are doing for their members. Our officers came back with several great ideas, but one in particular is engaging more with our Section Members. With that being said, we plan to vamp up our social media interactions by posting more technical content, fun facts regarding oil and gas (that you can share with family and friends), event details and a lot more. If you have any requests or suggestions or content please let reach out.

This month’s Committee Member Spotlight goes to Mark Van Domelen. Mark has been a SPE Distinguished Lecturer, helped with the Oil and Gas Symposium, currently runs our Education Program and has led many other crucial programs throughout his years of contribution. Thank you, Mark, for the many hours you have dedicated to SPEI and SPE Oklahoma City Section.

We recently added OSU to our Section’s sponsored schools and we are in the process of increasing interaction between OSU Students and SPE OKC Members. We are hosting a SPE Panel on Thursday, November 7th 6pm – 8pm and need your help! Sharing your advice and knowledge with the students as they entire their career would immensely help them succeed.

This month’s Luncheon we are hosting Nathan Meehan and he will be speaking on the topic of “The End of Petroleum Engineering (As We Know It)”. I have met Nathan Meehan during his role as 2018 SPEI President and he is an incredible speaker, you will not want to miss this luncheon. On December 5th, we have a Geosciences Study Group planned. Adam Haecker with Continental Resources will be presenting on the comparison of petrophysical properties to horizonal wells. I hope everybody has a wonderful month and a delicious Thanksgiving Break!

    Best Regards,

    Shahd Tarar
