The Oil and Gas Industry is full of risk from many sources such as geology, engineering and commodity price volatility. I think we would all agree, from the recent hardships we’ve had the past few years, that commodity price changes are often the largest cause of the economic failure (or success). It’s important to learn how we can use this volatility to improve our business decisions in this low-price environment. At our September Monthly Luncheon (Thursday, September 19th) Rishi Sahay with Risked Revenue will be speaking on the topic of “How Implied Volatilities from Options Markets Can Improve E&P Business Decisions”.
If you are looking to volunteer but not commit to a full position on the SPE Committee, we are currently seeking volunteers for the OU Resume workshop! If you are available 6:00PM – 7:30PM on Thursday September 5th, please consider joining us in Norman to help the OU Students prepare for their Career Expo. During this event, we meet one on one with the students to review their resume and give them interview advice.
In 2016, SPE OKC Section decided to create a specific event to thank our sponsors and volunteers who give so much to make this a successful section. Therefore, we created the SPE Awards and Recognition Ceremony (held Friday, September 20th). At this event, we recognize sponsors and companies who have gone above and beyond to provide support, as well as local members who have achieved SPE awards. We have finalized our Section Award Recipients for Committee Members and Companies. Dick Morrow will be presented the Lifetime Contribution Award, Danish Tarar will be presented the Officer of the Year Award, Randall Thompson will be presented the Outstanding Member Service Award and Caleb Padilla will be presented the Outstanding Young Professional Service Award. The Section is very grateful for the time and work these outstanding members have dedicated to improving the section. Devon Energy will receive the Diamond Award (for the 3rd year in a row!). Platinum Awards will be given to Chesapeake Energy, Halliburton, the University of Oklahoma, Schlumberger and Reservoir Data Systems! Make sure to check out the official announcement below to see which companies will be given the Gold and Silver Awards. The Oklahoma Section would not be successful without the volunteer and sponsorships contributions of these companies, so come to the banquet and help us thank them!
The Monthly Study Group will be hosted Tuesday, September 24th on the topic of “Modern Data Systems and Machine Learning and their Application to Time Series Frac Data Predictions” Jessica Iriarte and Sam Hoda with Well Data Labs. We also plan on hosting more social and networking events this year to increase the connections made throughout our Engineering Community. The next networking event, in the works, is a Ride Exercise Event at the Cycle Bar with Happy Hour afterwards! So be on the lookout for that fun event.
