Dear Mid-Continent Student Paper Contestants,
We are in unusual times and unusual times calls for creative thinking and changes to our standard behavior. In fact, to stress that point, I'm now working from home for the foreseeable future; along with a great number of my colleagues.
Much like many of our working environments - we too are transition to self-isolation and working from home; and Student Paper Contest will be doing the same.
The remaining student paper contests that need to take place in 2020 will all be conducted virtually in Microsoft Teams (attached). Here are some key points:
- Presentations will be pre-recorded and submitted to Staff in advance of the contest.
- The format of these videos will be standardized (slides as the visual element and with a verbal presentation as the audio) and slide templates will be used (attached).
- Students will be given a set time to join a Microsoft Teams Meeting where their video will be shown with judges also present. Video conferencing guide here
- Once the video has been played the judges will ask questions to the student for the usual Q&A time period.
- The judges will score the presentation with the new Score Form (attached), which eliminates criteria focused on presentation style. (The new total will be out of 90 rather than 100)
- Once judges have seen all presentations they will continue to tally and rank their scores. The ranking scores will be used to determine the winner as usual and the winners notified (preferably via phone or teleconference).
