  • Notes From The Chair - February 2021

    Hello Everyone,

Hope you all had a great start to the new year. We have a diverse line-up of events planned for you in February.

For our monthly (virtual) luncheon, we will be hosting Junjing "ZJ" Zhang, who is a part of SPE’s Distinguished Lecturer Program. We are also hosting a production study group this month where Russell Stevens and Gary Abdo with US Rod will be presenting. Both events, the luncheon and the study group, will be virtual zoom meetings and we look forward to a productive discussion so hope to see you there. We are also kicking off our 22nd Annual Wintertime Sporting Clays League on Feb 5th. Further details are included at the registration link below.

Part of a joint effort with SPE OU, we will be hosting a week-long resume workshop for OU students to help with their preparation for the upcoming spring career fair. Thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up to review the resumes with the students. Seeing such a strong number of volunteers for this event is refreshing and makes us proud to be a part of a community that so willingly gives back. During a severe downturn, the students need our support the most, and we hope to continue organizing these resume review workshops at various student chapters that SPE OKC sponsors. We are currently planning a similar event with SPE OSU and plan to send out the event details along with a request for volunteers soon.

Here are the details of all the aforementioned events, along with the registration links:

I also wanted to provide an update on the status our Annual Mardi Gras Gala. Due to COVID-19 we had previously postponed the event and I am excited to share that we now plan to hold the event as the Masquerade Ball for the benefit of Willow Springs Boys Ranch. We hope to host this black-tie event at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club on August 21st, 2021 as our first in-person event of the year (barring any COVID related issues). We hope to see you all there and continue the tradition of supporting the Willow Springs Boys Ranch. I’ve included a registration link here:

SPE continues to offer discounted renewals for members in transition so I encourage you to email service@spe.org if you run into any issues or have specific questions regarding the specials being offered. SPE is also now providing 6 free OnePetro downloads valid thru 12/31/21 when renewing. I also request all our members to update their email addresses on their SPE account profile on the website to ensure that we can reach out with pertinent information of benefit to you. With many of our members either having switched jobs or in-transition, we recommend using a non-work email address to ensure continuity of communication.

I wish you a healthy, safe and happy month of February. Drop me a note on SPE Connect or email me at danish.tarar@utexas.edu if I can be of any assistance.

    Warm Regards,

    Danish Tarar
