I hope that everyone has been enjoying this great weather that we have been having as well as some of the SPE events that have been hosted in the last few weeks.
This month’s Luncheon will feature JJ Xiao of Saudi Aramco and he will be speaking to the topic of “Enhancing Production with ESPs: Challenges and Solutions.” JJ will discuss some of the leading causes of ESP failures and then lead the audience through the research, development and trial tests of new technologies targeting longer life ESPs and shorter install times. Introduction to a novel rigless cable deployed ESP system will be illustrated and how some subsea technologies can be adopted to re-engineer the ESP power delivery system. In June, our own Mark Van Domelen of Downhole Chemical Solutions will be presenting on “Developing the Next Generation of Completion Engineers.” Signups for all luncheons through June are now available on our website.
I want to extend a special thanks to our Oil and Gas Symposium committee for the excellent job they did planning and executing this year’s symposium. I felt it was an excellent event and enjoyed the session presentations, the exhibition, and the STACK/SCOOP panel discussion. We had over 1000 attendees this year and I have heard great feedback from those I have spoken to. I also want to say thank you to our many sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers, without which, this event would not have been nearly as successful as it was.
In addition to the Symposium, we recently hosted our third installment of the SPE OKC spirits tasting, which featured Scotch whiskeys. We had over 40 attendees and all enjoyed an amazing dinner and whiskey pairings with each course. Our Spring Golf Tournament concluded on Friday and we managed to thread the weather perfectly. We had a great turnout and I want to thank the planning committee and all of our sponsors who make these events so successful, proceeds from our raffles go to support our scholarship program.
Now that spring is in full force, we are redoubling our SPE Cares efforts. On May 4th, we joined with our long time community partners, Willow Springs Boys Ranch, to conduct a spring cleaning and enjoy a game of touch football out at the ranch. The boys really enjoyed being able to spend time with some of our local members and I want to thank the volunteers who took the time to help out with this great cause. The next SPE Cares event is a work day with Habitat for Humanity on June 22nd. These events are a great opportunity to give back to our local community and have a notable impact on how the community views our industry.
As part of our continuing mission to disseminate pertinent technical knowledge to our members, we are going to be trialing a new study group this month. Often, as engineers, we must have a versatile knowledge of geology and geophysical concepts in order to better understand the complex systems to which we produce from, and as such we are introducing a geoscience focused topic. Our speaker, Santhosh Narasimhan, will be speaking “Geomechanics for Fracture Modeling by Utilizing Core and Cuttings Data” which will discuss how geomechanical data and core work can improve our understanding of hydraulic fracturing.
Have a great month and look forward to seeing you at our events!
