  • Chairman's Monthly Newsletter - Tyler Conner - February 2019

February is upon us and the cold has set in but SPE OKC has no plans flow slowing down.  The section is quickly approaching some of its most highly anticipated events in the coming months.  Be sure you have renewed your SPE dues so that you continue to get the Section emails and news about what we have planned.

As a reminder, we are in the last weeks for submitting nominations for both Regional and International awards.  International ends on February 15th and Regional on March 1st, so do not wait if you intend on nominating someone.  These awards are important to both the people receiving them, as a means of recognition for their accomplishments and dedication to the industry, and to the Section because they illustrate the health and strength of our membership.  If you know or work with anyone that you feel is deserving of an SPE Award, contact Natalie Boggs or myself.

We are a little under a month away from the 13th Annual SPE Mardi Gras Gala being hosted on March 1st at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.  Tickets are still available, but this event will sell out, so don’t wait.  Proceeds from the silent auction and the gaming tables will go to support Willow Springs Boys Ranch, an organization devoted to aiding at-risk boys from our local community.  This is a great event and a great cause so we hope to see you there!  On April the 5th, the section will be hosting our third installment of the spirits tasting, featuring Scotch whiskeys.  Any of you that know me, know I love a good glass of scotch, but the truly fun part of these events is learning more about the spirits and tasting the food pairings that go with them, keep an eye out for the registration link.

Our monthly luncheon speaker for February is a Distinguished Lecturer on the 2018-2019 circuit, Charles Pope, who will be delivering his talk concerning coiled tubing interventions in horizontal wells, how cost overruns can be avoided through engineering involvement.  In March, our speaker will be Martin Rylance, who will be sharing common failure mechanisms associated with hydraulic fracturing and his over 30 years of experience in fracturing operations across the globe.

On April 8th – 12th, the section will be hosting the Oklahoma City Oil and Gas Symposium.  The theme for this year’s symposium is “Developing the Future” and our technical program will include topical sessions covering data driven solutions to formation evaluation, development of unconventional resources, enhanced oil recovery, and fracturing materials and operations.  Our panel discussion this year will focus on the topic of the STACK/SCOOP developments and will involve panelists from several operators in the plays.  In addition to the content provided at the technical sessions, the symposium will feature an exhibition from numerous companies who will be highlighting their newest technologies and products aimed at providing solutions to the many issues that arise in oil and gas operations.  Subsequent to the main exhibition and sessions, there are also several short courses being offered to provide opportunities for technical development.  For more details about the symposium, short courses, or if you would like to sponsor exhibition space, please visit OKC Oil and Gas Symposium.

Have a great month and look forward to seeing you at our events!
