  • Notes From the Chair - June 2020

    Hey everybody!

    I hope you are staying safe as we begin returning to the office. Sadly, these will be my last chair notes as I will be passing the SPE OKC Section Chairman position in July to the next Chairman. I know I will be leaving the entire section in great hands as the Selection Committee has done thorough work in nominating the best volunteers for each position (vote will be held at the June Luncheon 06/18/2020). I hope that I have served you all well over the past year, and please know that I am entirely grateful for being elected to this prestigious position.

    We are ending this term with many virtual events to keep the entire section engaged through the pandemic. We are hoping we can begin hosting in person events starting mid-July, but we will keep monitoring the COVID-19 situation to make sure we keep everybody safe. For convenience, I listed the upcoming virtual events we have planned for you all below:

    • Thursday, June 18th | June Monthly Luncheon with Prem Bikkina at Oklahoma State University
    • Wednesday, June 24th | June Monthly Study Group with Sidd Gupta at NESH
    • Thursday, July 9th | July Tech Talk with Jason Hu at Stanford University

    Thank you to everybody who nominated their fellow colleagues for awards earlier this year. We are starting to receive awards for members in our Section! We are excited to announce the full list of award recipients, and will do so as soon as it’s finalized. We have so many wonderful members in our community, and I am glad to many recognized for their hard work. We will be celebrating and announcing these awards at our Annual Awards Banquet held Friday September 25th, 2020 at the Oak Tree Country Club. We are excited to host Tom Blasingame, who will be the 2021 Society of Petroleum Engineers President!

    I hope our industry improves significantly very soon but, in the meantime, please let us know how we can help. Again, I would like to thank you all for a wonderful year of serving you. Through this role, I’ve met so many amazing members, and will cherish those relationships for years to come!
