Introduction

We are currently seeking volunteers to work on the 2019 North American Student Symposium (NASS), which will be held in Houston, TX in February 2019.

Currently, we have 4 Directors who will chair the committees listed below and work with members on these committees to plan, organize, and execute the activities at NASS with the assistance of the SPE North America Regional Directors, and SPE Staff.

Need-to-Know

NASS is planned for students by students with support from SPE staff. The commitment is for one (1) year with all participants expected to attend the Symposium. Responsibilities vary by committee, many working over the summer and holiday breaks.

Approximately 200 hours of time will be required over a 6 month period.

These positions are open to all SPE student members in North America, who do not graduate before March 2019.

Committee Positions

Progam Committee

Responsible for the development of the technical and non-technical program for the symposium

Committee Size = 5
  • Develops content ideas relevant to the audience
  • Solicits speakers
  • Solicits Keynotes, panels etc.
  • Works with SPE staff on program timing
  • Communicates with speakers
  • Attend all NASS meetings

Social/Networking Events Committee

Works with professional members in the area to plan networking events, coordinating with SPE staff on program timing. Works with fundraising committee on sponsorship for the even

Committee Size = 2
  • Develops content ideas relevant to the audience
  • Solicits speakers
  • Solicits Keynotes, panels etc.
  • Works with SPE staff on program timing
  • Communicates with speakers
  • Attend all NASS meetings

Fundraising Committee

Will develop a fundraising plan and approaches organizations to seek out sponsorship opportunities

Committee Size = 5
  • Works with SPE staff to develop a sponsorship package
  • Present sponsorship opportunities throughout the community, make the ask of companies for sponsorship
  • Communicates frequently with SPE staff on sponsorship status
  • Facilitate contact and follow up with past and potential new sponsors
  • Facilitate contact after and follow-up with sponsorship through the point of securing the funds
  • Attend all NASS meetings
  • Work with SPE Staff to select and order recognition items for sponsors
  • Recognize and thank sponsors
  • Network with sponsors onsite to garner relationships

Public/Social Media Committee

Works with the directors and committee to develop and implement a strategy that promotes awareness and participation in NASS

Committee Size = 3
  • Work with SPE to develop publicity plans
  • Attend NASS meetings
  • Work in conjunction with all committee chairs to promote their initiatives
  • Work with SPE Staff to draft emails and marketing
  • Support SPE staff the development of the program
  • Coordinates with Website and social media to assure timely communication

Website Officer

Committee Size = 1 (Tentative)
  • Post creative website pertinent to the NASS
  • Update the website regularly with current material
  • Solicit information needed from other committees
  • Use personal networks to promote NASS

Exhibition/Career Fair

Committee Size = 5
  • Work with sponsorship committee to solicit corporate recruiters to participate
  • Work with SPE staff to develop plan
  • Coordinate set up and check with vendors to make sure they have everything they need

Field Trip Committee

Committee Size = 3
  • Work with local companies to obtain field trips
  • Work with SPE staff for logistical planning
  • Make sure onsite support is there

Petrobowl Committee

Committee Size = 5
  • Coordinate with RD for questions
  • Work with SPE staff for team registration
  • Develop the rules and communicate them with those involved
  • Coordinate all on-site planning with SPE Staff
  • Solicit judges and moderators
  • Create bracket
  • Promote participation
  • Solicit volunteers

Selection Process

America based Regional Activities Specialists will work with the established NASS Executive Committee to select candidates that best fit the committees that you have expressed interest in.

All those selected will be contacted before the middle of August 2018.
