About the Committee

The committee provides oversight, coordination, and strategic planning for the society's book development programs. It solicits, reviews, and approves recommendations for new titles, assuring adequate coverage of technical topics. It also recommends modifications to book publication policy and programs to improve overall performance and efficiency.  The committee comprises 12 members who each serve three-year terms.

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous publications experience (writing and/or reviewing) is helpful, but not required
• Prior SPE volunteer service is also helpful
• Background in scholarly and/or higher education publishing is highly desirable
• Published authors are preferred
• Peer-review knowledge/history is a plus

Expected Time Commitment

• Four to five teleconferences per year (one to two hours each)
• One in-person meeting during ATCE (two hours)
• Time to review proposals and respond to online discussion postings on a periodic basis (usually monthly to quarterly)

Deliverables and Expectations

• Solicit, review, and approve recommendations for new titles, assuring adequate coverage of technical topics
• Help identify potential topics and authors/editors/reviewers for new books
• Help identify project managers for new titles, who will work with the author(s) and see the project through the process (committee members may also serve as project managers)
• Provide oversight, coordination, and strategic planning for the society's book development programs
• Provide oversight in conjunction with the project managers to assure that SPE quality standards are being maintained

• Committee members are selected by the SPE President-Elect
• Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 31 July 2018
