PetroBowl®

SPE’s flagship competition matches SPE Student Chapter teams against one another in a fast-paced quiz competition covering technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry. Teams from six regional qualifiers are seeded through to the final. Competitions take place in the Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, Middle East, North America and South America and before the final which takes place at the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE). 

We are currently seeking volunteers for the Regional South America and Caribbean competition that will take place during the SPE Trinidad and Tobago Section Energy Resources Conference, 25 - 27 June in Port of Spain, Trinidad. 

For the positions below, your physical presence in Trinidad & Tobago will be required, and all expenses related to volunteering will not be reimbursed by 

Please remember that as a competition for Student Chapters, students and university faculty cannot apply for these roles.

Description

PetroBowl Judges are experienced professionals who during the contest are able to review the questions as they are asked and support the moderator is any questions or appeals are made by the moderator or players. At least 3 judges will be required per game and should have a range of discipline understanding between them. This role will include involvement before and after the competition itself.

We are currently seeking judges for the Petrobowl Regional Qualifiers for the South America & Caribbean Region. The competition will take place in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad; you will be required to be in Trinidad in order to participate. 

Specification

  • Not suitable for YPs
  • Judges require many years of experience in the industry, senior professionals, with suitable expertise to be called upon to resolve appeals or ambiguous answers.

Duties Include

  • Participate in volunteer briefing session(s) as required in advance of the contest
  • Pre-read questions before the event so as to gain familiarity with Question Set
  • Follow the questions provided in the folder and be prepared to make a decision on the validity of an answer if the moderator defers to judges or a team makes an appeal
  • Assisting the Moderator in ensuring teams abide by all policies as outlined in the PetroBowl Rules & Regulations
  • Participate in debriefing session(s) as required following the contest

Time required

Judges will be required for the full day of the contest and will be involved in discussions for preparation and debrief of the event.
