The YMEC aims to ensure that young professional and student engagement remains a top priority for the future of SPE. YMEC members play a crucial role in developing and implementing programs and activities that provide significant value to SPE Young Members worldwide.

The committee is divided into three subcommittees focusing on Innovation, Communication and Student Integration. Members are appointed by the SPE President-Elect and serve one year terms, renewable up to a maximum of three consecutive years. Terms begin from ATCE in September.

Expectations

Each member of the committee is expected to:

  • Take an active role within the leadership team or one of the subcommittees, so that the YMEC can maintain and build on the success of the SPE Young Members portfolio of programs and initiatives.
  • Commit to mutually agreed actions and deliver upon these by the agreed deadlines.
  • Make a considerable effort to attend and contribute to all meetings The YMEC will physically meet once per year, at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition. Quarterly committee meetings will take place by teleconference and subcommittee teleconferences take place up to a maximum of once a month.
  • Dedicate approximately 1 hour per week to complete action items.
  • Members are appointed by the SPE President-Elect and serve one year terms, renewable up to a maximum of three consecutive years.

Eligibility

YMEC Members must be:

  • SPE Members in good standing
  • Preferred previous experience on the Section YP Committee
  • Personal interest in developing university students and young professionals
  • Effective communicator
  • Experience within a leadership role, either in a professional, or volunteering environment

Note that although YMEC strives to have the majority of its members represented by YPs, this role is not exclusive to YPs.
