Robotics and Autonomous Systems Technical Section

Welcome!

The Robotics and Autonomous Systems Technical Section (RAS TS) provides a collaborative, knowledge sharing hub where Industry leaders, innovators, technology adopters and enthusiasts converge to explore the potential of robotic and autonomous systems within the Oil & Gas sector.

The technical program of the section is developed to embrace the full spectrum of remotely operated and autonomous vehicles as applied across land, air, and sea (surface and subsea), including the interconnected digital solutions and power systems.

Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Aerial Drones have been industry pioneers for several years. They tackle complex inspection and intervention tasks, execute missions in extreme environments, and significantly contribute to enhanced operational safety. Now, the confluence of established industry expertise with rapid advancements in robotics and digital technologies, is paving the way for autonomy to play a significant role in the increasingly complex operational scenarios. In response to the industry's evolving needs for safety, efficiency, and sustainability, a new generation of autonomous vehicles is consequently preparing to enter the operational scenes.

On land, Autonomous Ground Vehicles (AGVs) will streamline logistics and minimize risks within facilities. At sea, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) will unlock exploration and data gathering in deeper, harsher environments, while Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs) will provide safer and less impactful services at sea.

Robotic and Autonomous Systems are not just technology and tools. They carry the potential to greatly transform operations and provide significant gains on many fronts. Yet, technology alone is not enough to deliver on the current and future industry operational challenges, driven by safety, efficiency and sustainability objectives.

It is domain-specific solutions, crafted from advanced technologies and tailored to the uniqueness of energy operations, that can hold the key for change.

As the energy landscape evolves, the RAS TS aims to provide a focal point to explore and discover how these emerging technologies are shaping the energy sector.
