July 08, 2017

Gentlemen and Ladies of the press, please accept my profound appreciation on behalf of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Nigeria Council for attending this briefing.

Preamble

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Nigeria Council comprising Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri, Benin and Abuja Sections is an affiliate of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International, a not-for-profit professional organization with over 168,000 members worldwide. Our mission is to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies for the public benefit and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.

The Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) is an annual event organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council. The conference and exhibition focuses mainly on collecting and encouraging the dissemination of technical knowledge and technologies relating to the oil and gas industry. It also provides an E&P market place for companies in Sub-Sahara Africa. In its over forty years, NAICE has grown to become the largest upstream technical knowledge focused Oil and Gas event in Africa. It attracts industry regulators, high level government officials, petroleum technology professionals at all levels and other key oil and gas industry stakeholders. It has sustained its tradition as a platform for discussion of pertinent issues across the oil and gas industry and has generated thoughts-provoking ideas that have shaped policies and practices for our industry.

Highlights of NAICE 2017

Riding the waves of Boom and Bust: Common Objectives, Diverse Perspectives” will x-ray different stakeholders’ perspectives for addressing the challenges the industry currently faces and how to take the learnings forward. The current trend of oil price has shown that we should be looking at a ‘’lower for longer’’ operating model. Thus we will encourage discussions on key areas that contribute directly to production costs, from the perspectives of the regulators, operators and service providers with a view to take forward the shared best practices. A number of plenary sessions during the conference have been designed to dissect the theme further, to provide opportunities for a diverse team of industry technocrats, heads of government regulatory agencies from within Nigeria, Africa and beyond to share valuable insights.
