Advisory Board


The SPE Nigeria Council Board of Trustees (BoT) serves as the custodian of the long term values of the Council and provides advisory service to the Council. 

The advisory and moderating roles of the BOT include: (1) Act as the custodian of the society’s long term vision (2) Support Council’s key programs (3) Liaise with key Government and Private sector leadership on behalf of the SPE (4) Deliver external linkages for SPE Nigeria, and (5) Oversight function for Nigeria Council’s investments.

By a recent amendment to the operating guidelines of the Council, all past Council Chairmen becomes members of the BoT. The guidelines also provided for appointment of industry chieftains as trustees of SPE Nigeria Council. The board is currently composed of 38 trustees with Mrs. Oluseyi Afolabi as the first female trustee. These passionate veterans of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria have shown keen devotion to sustaining the long term vision of SPE in Nigeria and have led by inspiring others.

Engineer Andrew Olotu was admitted to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria from where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with Honors (Second Class Upper Division) in June 1975. He commenced a distinguished career in the Petroleum Industry in August 1976 as Trainee Mechanical Engineer with the then Shell-BP Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, Lagos. Quickly rose through the ranks to become Head, Pipelines Engineering Department & Manpower Development Coordinator, having served in various capacities and many countries including The Netherlands, Sultanate of Oman and Gabon before leaving Shell in 1989. Joined and worked with Camco Limited with responsibility for Sales & Marketing in West Africa between 1989 and 1999. When Camco was acquired by Schlumberger, on integration of Camco Limited into Schlumberger Nigeria Limited, was appointed Marketing Manager, Completions Systems. Between 2004 and 2009, he was involved in Account Management, Industry and Government relations, rising to become Global Account Director (Government Companies in Nigeria) & Managing Director. Retired in December 2016 and currently an independent petroleum contractor.

He was at various times the Chairman of Petroleum Contractors Trade Section (PCTS) of the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).  He also chaired the post amnesty oil and gas industry foundation. A member of several professional organizations and has received several honors from several Universities including being recognized as Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Benin, Nigeria.
