"What's Next?"
Abstract
OIPA, SPE, AADE and OCGS will present a panel discussion for members in transition in order to provide information about surviving the industry downturn and making their next career step. Jeff McDougall, President of JMA Energy, and Thom Holmes, former Devon manager of engineering and technology, will share their personal stories regarding downturns they have experienced and how they handled their transitions. Natalie Boggs, oil and gas recruiter for Dalton Boggs & Associates, will provide industry insight and practical information about conducting a job search.
The event will be held at 11:30 a.m., April 27 at the OIPA headquarters, 500 N.E. 4th Street in Oklahoma City. Lunch will be provided.

Panelist Biographies
Jeffery J. McDougall is the President and principal owner of JMA Energy Company, which he founded in 1986 after his position at Triad Drilling was eliminated. JMA along with its affiliated companies are headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. McDougall is an active member of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association (OIPA) and he serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and is currently serving as Chairman. Mr. McDougall holds a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Tulsa and has served on The University of Tulsa Board of Trustees.
Thom Holmes is currently evaluating options for his next great adventure. He was employed at Devon Energy in Oklahoma City for 15 years, and served as a manager of Engineering Technology for the past three years. Thom graduated Cum Laude from the University of Oklahoma in 1979 with a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. Prior to joining Devon, Thom held positions with Tenneco, Conoco, Union Pacific Resources, and Pioneer Natural Resources. He has been an SPE member for nearly 40 years, and served as the 1st Vice Chairman of the Oklahoma City Section from 2013 to 2015. Holmes has been through seven layoff cycles over the past 30 years. He has received 3 severance packages himself, and handed out packages to his employees on two different occasions. His observations and experiences have shown him that most people will experience personal and professional growth through these times.
Natalie Boggs has recruiting experience in the Oil & Gas, Healthcare, and Accounting fields. She began her career at the Rowland Group in Tulsa, where she specialized in recruiting General Accounting and Oil & Gas professionals. She joined Dalton Boggs & Associates in 2007, and currently specializes in recruiting Oil & Gas professionals across the United States, including engineers, geologists, landmen, accountants, and executives. Natalie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She is an active member of SPE, and has served on the SPE board and the SPE YP Committee for the past six years. Natalie currently serves as the Oklahoma City Section Chair on the SPE board. Natalie’s work as a headhunter has provided her with unique insight into what employers look for in candidates.
