ABSTRACT

Uncertainty around data, models and outcomes in the subsurface is not new, as are the methods to address uncertainties and risks for decision making. Nevertheless, decision making is often based on rudimentary and incomplete treatment of uncertainties, affecting the quality of decisions. This talk focuses on the historical context, methods to deal with uncertainty, and the link to decision making.

 

This talk addresses the source of uncertainties, models and modeling, treatment of uncertainties in modeling, quantification of risk, and decision making under uncertainty.
