Abstract:
SPE membership has surpassed 100,000 and the challenge is to continue to grow the organization’s diverse membership, while providing services that are beneficial. Members of SPE come from a wide range of companies with varied backgrounds that are all over the world. There are many benefits that come with being a SPE member, tangible and intangible. In addition, members have access to the latest technical knowledge, the ability to network and receive professional development at all levels.

SPE has a vast collection of knowledge and technical papers online through the society’s website and OnePetro. The society also hosts more than 100 conferences, forums, and workshops each year.  Another key component of SPE is its Young Professionals program. In 2011, SPE had more than 29,000 student members in 103 countries. By being a member of SPE, those students have access to all the information that regular members receive.

In addition, young members continue to enhance their technical competence and receive “soft skills” training. They also have access to many workshops, global networking events and awards. There are many opportunities to further your education within SPE as a YP. SPE offers scholarships in all geographic regions, as well as SPE Professional Certification in the Middle East, Asia Pacfic, and others. The Society also aims to accelerate the transition for University students through opportunities such as regional student paper contests, Energy4Me, and eMentoring programs among others. SPE continues to evolve to adapt to its member’s needs. The Society prides itself on being a respected resource for technical knowledge, with a diverse membership that provides lifelong opportunities for career development
