Abstract:

The complexity of wells is increasing in terms of well design, well density, drilling environment and reservoir challenges, while performance is at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts. The planning of the delivery for the wells is of paramount importance. Historically, and ongoing in some areas, the service providers are selected to deliver the services on an individual basis allowing little to no integration / planning. A service company has taken the initiative to create in Abu Dhabi a specialized Drilling PetroTechnical Engineering Centre (PTEC). This centre has brought together the most highly qualified technical experts, processes and proprietary engineering tools with the goal of driving drilling performance to the next level. The collocated experts focus on delivering value to the customer while growing the business of all drilling related segments.  The segments involved are DD / MWD / LWD, Fluids, Bits and Downhole tools, Managed Pressure, Wellbore Stability, Well Placement and Mudlogging. The centre is responsible for providing customized, best-in-class drilling systems.

The key to the success and therefore the mutual benefit to customers and the service company of the PTEC is the power of the collocation of the technical experts where they are all working together to meet or exceed the same objectives for each hole section on the well. The talk will describe the process, the people involved, the software, the workflow and the results of some PTEC projects
