Speaker: Ahmed Ismail
Mr. Ahmed Ismail received his bachelor degree in Engineering from Misr University of Science and Technology in Cairo, Egypt, and holds an MBA from Maastricht School of Management in Netherlands. He joined Baker Hughes Egypt as a completion field Engineer in 2006, moved to a technical sales role in mid-2008 and later he was promoted to completions support manager for the Middle East Region.

The speaker has been involved in SPE Forums on the Expandable Technology. He was a co-author on the last SPE Monobore Expandable Liner Extension Paper (2011). He currently holds the position of Middle East Region Technical Support Manager in Baker Hughes.

Abstract:
Ever since man began drilling wells, operators have continuously looked for ways to increase drilling efficiency, substantially reduces NPT time from drilling hazards and effectively isolate problem drilling zones such sloughing, caving, swelling shale sections without reducing the casing ID.

The expandable monobore liner extension enables the operator to drill deeper exploration and production wells with larger hole sizes at the reservoir,  isolate zones that contain reactive shales, sub-salt environments, low fracture gradient formations or other drilling situations without having to reduce the casing and subsequent drilled hole size into the reservoir.

A one-trip, top-down expansion system was developed and tested to prove the feasibility of the expandable monobore liner extension concept, including the ability to provide an optimized, cost-effective casing configuration without reducing drilled hole size
