Description

Speaker: Amran Marhubi

Amran Marhubi is Technical Director of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). He joined PDO in 1980 and has held a variety of posts in drilling and production engineering. Previously, he spent 5 years with Shell E&P in Aberdeen.

Currently, he is directly accountable for the performance and development of the product-flow assets — oil fields, oil-production facilities, staff and reputation.

Abstract:
In volume terms Petroleum Development Oman is by no means amongst the giants in the region, but it is certainly the most diverse.

PDO has been producing oil since 1967 and in this talk the history of PDO is presented against the back drop of the continuous implementation of technology.

PDO is renowned for its implementation of technology usually first in the region and sometimes in the world. We have done not out of fashion but out of shear necessity to tackle our difficult and diverse geology and crudes.

The history will take us from primary to today’s tertiary recovery where we have Thermal, Miscible and chemical floods in operation. It will take us to the building of the world’s largest wetland water treatment facility and much more.
