"Latest Advancements in Far-Field Proppant Detection"

Terry Palisch
Global Engineering Director
CARBO Ceramics, Inc.

Abstract:
Identifying proppant location in hydraulic fracture treatments has been of interest for many years. However, until recently, most proppant detection techniques have been limited to the depth of investigation of gamma ray or neutron logs in the near-wellbore area. This talk will review a new proppant detection method which utilizes electromagnetic theory and specialty detectible proppant. This technique was most recently documented in SPE 184880 and presented at the SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Conference in February 2017. The presentation will also show the results of the first several field trials of this technology.
