OMG! – 42 YEARS IN OIL AND GAS!  DID I FORGET ALL THE LESSONS LEARNED? - Neil Seage

When:  Nov 23, 2017 from 05:30 PM to 07:30 PM (ET)

OMG! – 42 YEARS IN OIL AND GAS!  DID I FORGET ALL THE LESSONS LEARNED?

Neil Seage will present a “Lite List of Lessons Learned” over 42** years plying his trade in the upstream hydrocarbon industry.  The lessons span Neil’s experiences in technical, operational, economic planning, HSE and community relations areas.  Reference Lesson 3: “Forecasting is Fun but it’s certainly not Science”.  Or Lesson 8: “Successful Environmental Management requires staying on message”.  Or Lesson 5: “How do you distinguish whether you are communicating with an Explorer or a Producer?”.

While born into Chemical Engineering, Neil surreptitiously gained qualifications in Geophysics and the Dark Financial Arts.  Neil insists that he only indulges in Geophysics for recreational purposes.  And Neil did return from the brink of full-on financial satanic ritual – just!

Neil Seage has enjoyed work assignments with Esso Australia, Bridge Oil / Parker and Parsley, Apache Energy, New Zealand Oil and Gas and latterly Roc Oil Company Limited.  He has worked in the Gippsland, Otway, Surat and Perth Basins and the North West Shelf.  Neil has ventured into the onshore UK, Taranaki NZ, and Angola.  Offshore, Neil has ventured into the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico and offshore southern and northern China, Sarawak Malaysia and Mauritania.  Neil even had a stint in the Gobi Desert, Outer Mongolia (almost as “onshore” as one can get).

Neil has worked in Reservoir and Petroleum Engineering, Process and Production Engineering and Operations, Economic Planning and HSE.  Regrettably he never had the opportunity to work directly in drilling or geoscience but he has learned how to communicate (to the extent possible) with both core disciplines, sometimes together.

Neil is currently on the Committee of the NSW-ACT Section of SPE and is at a nostalgic stage of life.

** Mature members may wish to refer to “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams and reflect on whether Neil will present the answer to the “Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything", calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years.  No promises.
