Larry Brown Bio

Larry Brown is an independent Petroleum Engineering consultant in North Texas. He specializes in Reservoir Engineering and is keenly interested in Engineering Professionalism.  He has provided training in Reservoir Engineering and Production Analysis for several organizations and for several years has prepared and presented lectures on Engineering Ethics to help his fellow engineers meet their continuing education obligations.  Brown is a Distinguished Member of SPE and a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and Oklahoma.  He has worked for Cities Service Company, Occidental Petroleum and Apache Corporation.

Brown is a previous member and chair of SPE’s Engineering Professionalism Committee and was chair of SPE’s Task Force on Professional Certification as well as serving as member and chair of several other national SPE committees. His BS is in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University with MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, respectively, from the University of Tulsa. 

Ethics Presentation Summary

This presentation provides an hour of ethics training as required by several state boards to fulfill continuing education obligations for professional licensing. The talk will review the contents of a typical professional ethics code, suggest an overarching ethical principle, review recent decisions by state boards and present a decision-making tree for resolving ethical issues.
