Abstract

Join your SPE Calgary Section for the 1st Annual Rocky Mountains Field Trip.  The day includes a series of guided outcrop stops led by a local structural geologist, finishing with a refreshment stop in Canmore or Banff (schedule depending). The technical content will appeal to geologists and engineers alike.  A moderate level of hiking/walking will be required.  This is an excellent opportunity to network and have applied discussions with your peers.  Transportation from Calgary will be provided.  Space is limited, so register soon!


Tour Guide Bio

John Foster (M.Sc., P.Geo.) is a senior geoscientist with Anderson Thompson Reservoir Strategies, and contributes exploration and development geology and geophysics expertise to the group. John began his career as a geologist in 2005 and has worked for BP, Shell, and PennWest. He is a subject matter expert in naturally fractured reservoirs, asset development, and exploration. Possessing a wide breadth of skills in geology, geophysics, and geomechanics, he focuses on integrating geological and engineering data to optimize well placement and asset performance. He has drilled hundreds of horizontal wells, and delivered successful development projects in a variety of plays, including the Duvernay, Montney, Nikanassin, Mannville, Cardium, and Viking. John is also an active reserve officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he has held positions as finance officer and public affairs officer.
