Abstract:
"Graphs force us to note the unexpected; nothing could be more important." -John Tukey.
For several centuries, graphs have been used as a means of visual communication of quantitative information. In this presentation, we will go over the two objectives of graphs, the choice of graphs for exploratory analysis, univariate, bivariate and multivariable statistics. Finally, we will present a number of tips and best practices to improve visual communication.
Speaker Bio:
Thomas is a Canadian statistician and data scientist. His core belief is that statistical rigor must transcend professional barriers: decisions be guided by data and coated with domain context; uncertainty be embraced, not hidden. In the era of data-as-an-asset, organizations - often unknowingly - lack scientific rigor and statistical literacy to properly utilize data for decision making. And this can be costly. For nearly a decade he has served as an applied cancer Statistician. Passionate about statistical literacy, he has brought his expertise to the Oil and Gas industry helping engineers and other professionals bridge the gap between the data and the information they need.
