SPE Workshop: Well Integrity in Mature fields: Challenges and Perspectives

Eastern Europe covers some 20 countries with over 120,000 active wells with aging assets and new development challenges for both on and offshore. This region provides everything from fields with moderate pressure, requiring artificial lift, to high-pressure, sour oil and gas wells. With a focus on self-supporting E&P development and an eye toward export to Central Europe, this region encompasses many exciting Well Integrity issues.

With the diversity of well integrity challenges—such as the extended use of wells for tertiary oil and gas recovery, or potential reuse for sustainable energy solutions like CO2 storage and geothermal solutions, or ultimately how this region will manage abandonments of many thousands of depleted wells, life cycle assessment, and understanding—the well integrity barrier requirements enter a new era of understanding.

The opportunity with the introduction of global well integrity standards, provides a platform to manage the diversity of wells with age and complexity in a scalable, consistent approach. The use of well failure models could provide insight into the well life cycle barrier requirements and build on understanding of the well integrity subsurface issues and associated risk.

SPE Workshops

An SPE workshop is a multi-day event that fosters knowledge sharing in an intensive learning experience. It provides brief technical presentations followed by extensive Q&A and discussion.

Staged in an intimate setting, an SPE workshop brings together E&P professionals with common roles and challenges to share ideas that advance both technology and best practices. They provide an environment for frank, open discussion. Press is not invited to attend.

The workshop’s program committee members solicit presentations from top industry professionals. This ensures a robust technical program with presentations that are laser-focused on best practices, lessons learned, and case studies.

What You Receive

  • Attendees qualify for 2.0 SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU). One CEU equals 10 contact hours of participation. CEUs are awarded through SPE Professional Development for participation and completion of SPE workshops. A permanent record of a participant's involvement  and CEUs obtained will be maintained by SPE.
  • Released copies of the workshop presentations will be available to attendees following the conclusion of the workshop. Speakers do not write formal papers and are not expected to release their presentations for publication.
