Session 1 of 3:

Abstract:

In 2013 within months of becoming President & CEO, Doug Suttles launched a Strategy to transform Encana into a highly competitive company that was resilient to the cyclical nature of the industry.  Core to this strategy was a transition to a balanced, high-margin portfolio of top-tier assets, strict capital discipline, operational excellence and proactive balance sheet management.  Under Doug’s leadership, and during a period of challenging market conditions, Encana completed one of the industry’s most impressive organizational transformations, and is now deriving significant value from its high-quality, multi-basin portfolio.  Encana has returned to growth in 2017, and recently unveiled an updated 5-year plan that is self-funded post 2017, and has a return on capital employed that climbs to 10-15% with prices assumed flat at $50 WTI/$3 NYMEX.

Kim had a front row seat during the entire transformation.  Shortly after the strategy launch, she was asked to lead the Canadian portion of the portfolio transformation efforts from the Operations side.  Over the next three years she helped present, evaluate and negotiate over $5B of property divestitures.  She also worked as a member of an ad-hoc Strategy Refresh Team to determine if any changes were prudent considering the collapse in oil prices from >$100/bbl to $50/bbl.  Since late 2016 Kim has served as the Senior Manager for the Peace River Arch, Dawson South & Wheatland teams where she is primarily responsible for efficient value growth in the AB & BC Montney.

Kim Williams will talk about the Encana’s incredible transformation in the context of leadership, pragmatism, and the pollination effect.
