Abstract:

Please join CADE and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) on October 13, 2017 where we will have a discussion about the trends of AER-submitted data from 450,000 Alberta wells. This data is used to identify some potential causes of well failures, emerging trends and possible methods of reducing well failures.

Brief:
Alberta is a world leader in drilling wells on land, and the energy industry has developed solutions to many significant well integrity issues. The innovation envelope continues to be pushed and new challenges are emerging. Industry and the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) need to collaboratively work together to address and overcome these challenges.

Scenarios related to surface casing vent flow (SCVF), gas migration (GM) and casing failures in wells will be examined. Some potential sources for drilling solutions are considered by analysing cases where advanced practices related to primary casing cementing and casing design have been implemented.
