The Importance of Effective Communication Within a Diverse Team to Achieve Desired Results
Mr. Michael Lammers
NASA Flight Director
Mr. Michael Lammers is an International Space Station Flight Director at NASA/Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. As a Flight Director, Mr. Lammers leads a team of Flight Controllers within the Mission Control Center and astronaut crewmembers onboard the Space Station during routine research operations as well as critical operations such as spacewalks, robotics, and visiting vehicle rendezvous and dockings.
Along with direct support of daily operations from Mission Control, Mr. Lammers manages longer term engineering projects which currently include the NASA robotic capture and joint operations of the Japanese HTV-5 cargo vehicle, scheduled for launch in 2015. Previous projects have included overhaul and replacement of the satellite video, voice, and data transfer systems onboard Space Station, deployment of internet capability for the Space Station crew, numerous dockings/undockings of manned and robotic earth transfer vehicles, several spacewalks, and the overall lead for the four month Space Station Expedition 26 crew.
Mr. Lammers has worked for NASA as both a contractor and federal employee since 1996 and holds bachelor’s and masters degrees in Aerospace Engineering. Prior to becoming a Flight Director in 2008 he held engineering, operations, and management positions focused primarily on spacecraft communications, software, and guidance systems supporting the Space Station and Space Shuttle Programs.
Mr. Lammers' presentation will focus on the necessity of effective communication within a diverse team to achieve a desired goal. He will use projects on the International Space Station to demonstrate effective communication.
