"Integrated Solutions Maximize Asset Value for Clients in GOM Wells

The oil and gas industry has experienced an increase in the level of compliance required by the federal government. These new laws and regulations are aimed at creating a safe barrier for those directly involved with developing, and executing the drilling and completion of wells in the Gulf of Mexico Region. Specifically, the paper focuses on negative testing and barriers. The industry standards and government mandates discussed are from the American Petroleum Institute and the Code of Federal Regulation Title 30.
One drawback from increased regulation and standards is added costs. Authorizations for expenditures are being increased while commodity prices have been at recent lows, thus creating tight profit margins. The presentation will outline the execution of a single trip performed during wellbore operations that encompassed multiple tasks in one run. The subject run consisted of setting a mechanical barrier, performing a negative test, and the retrieval of a wear bushing. The challenge was to perform these three applications in one run without experiencing setbacks. The paper outlines the method in which the run was successfully completed and discusses the challenges and lessons learned from previous attempts to perform this operation.
