Bio:
Trevor Rees-Jones, who earned a BA from Dartmouth College and JD from SMU School of Law, is founder and CEO of Dallas-based Chief Oil & Gas LLC, and CEO of Rees-Jones Holdings LLC, after establishing a bankruptcy legal practice specializing in oil and gas reorganization (1978-1984).
Mr. Rees-Jones entered the oil and gas business in 1984 as an independent operator working in exploration and production. In 1994, Mr. Rees-Jones founded Chief Oil & Gas, which was an early operator during the development of the Barnett Shale field in North Texas. In 2008, Chief began operating in the Marcellus Shale play in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. In addition to exploration and production, Rees-Jones and Chief established midstream companies in both the Barnett and Marcellus, gathering and delivering natural gas from wells drilled by Chief and other operators.
Chief continues as a leading private independent oil and gas company, with a substantial acreage position in the Marcellus, as well as holdings and activity in many other oil and gas basins in the U.S. Currently, Chief Oil & Gas is the second largest privately-owned producer of natural gas in the nation, operating over 1% of the country’s daily natural gas production.
Mr. Rees-Jones is past president of both the Dallas Petroleum Club and the Dallas Hardhatters Committee (now the Dallas Wildcatters Committee), is a past member of the Board of Trustees at Dartmouth College, and is a member of the TCU Board of Trustees. Mr. Rees-Jones received the Folsom Award for civic and community service in 2011. In 2013, he was presented with the Circle Ten Council Distinguished Eagle Scout Award and was inducted into the Junior Achievement's Dallas Business Hall of Fame. Mr. Rees-Jones has also been inducted into the Entrepreneurs for North Texas “Ring of Entrepreneurs” by Communities Foundation of Texas (2014); was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame (2014); was recognized by the Texas Oil & Gas Association with its distinguished Service Award (2013); and received the Highland Park Distinguished Alumni Award (2016).
Along with his wife, Jan, Mr. Rees-Jones founded The Rees-Jones Foundation in 2006 to support programs, principally in the North Texas area, involved in human services for children, youth and families, with emphasis on improving life conditions for children and youth suffering abuse or neglect, mental health challenges or other disabilities or disadvantages. In addition, the Foundation works with organizations that teach our youth character development, as well as programs focused on animal welfare.
Mr. and Mrs. Rees-Jones live in Dallas and have two sons, Trevor R. and David, both TCU graduates.
