Abstract: Ever since man began drilling wells, operators have continuously looked for ways to increase drilling efficiency, substantially reduces NPT time from drilling hazards and effectively isolate problem drilling zones such sloughing, caving, swelling shale sections without reducing the casing ID. The expandable monobore liner extension enables the operator to drill deeper exploration and production wells with larger hole sizes at the reservoir, isolate zones that contain reactive shales, sub-salt environments, low fracture gradient formations or other drilling situations without having to reduce the casing and subsequent drilled hole size into the reservoir. A one-trip, top-down expansion system was developed and tested to prove the feasibility of the expandable monobore liner extension concept, including the ability to provide an optimized, cost-effective casing configuration without reducing drilled hole size Reservations: Contact spe-ne@spemail.org Fees (Includes Meals): SPE Member: 150 AED Non SPE Member: 200 AED Directions to Venue: GPS: N 24 degrees 45.312' E 55 degrees 03.398' Contact Numbers: Main Line - 04 811 4000 Security - 04 811 4999

Session Overview: Well Plug & Abandonment (P&A) is the final operation in a well, this work required by local governments represents a huge liability for the oil & gas industry. The objective is to place permanent well barriers which shall extend across the full cross section of the well, including all annuli and seal both vertically and horizontally

The benefits from these rigless, light well interventions is mainly reduced cost and less HSE risk but it can also be demonstrated that light well interventions enable improved reservoir recovery. The literature has examples of benefits from light well interventions in offshore platform wells and in unconventional reservoirs but no where is it more impacting than in subsea wells, where the recovery is 25% - 35% less than land or platform wells. The single reason for this difference is that subsea wells have less interventions
